Milan

After climbing the Duomo in Florence, I figured that climbing the Milan Cathedral would be a piece of cake. Hot and sweaty, kind of peeved that we couldn’t use the elevator, but always eager to experience new things, I made my way up the stairs–and wow, was it amazing! With its unique gothic architecture, the Milan Cathedral was immediately distinguishable and one of the coolest looking buildings I have ever seen! And the view, as it turns out, wasn’t that much different–simply breath-taking, definitley worth the climb up. Instead of climbing up, taking a few pictures, and walking back down, my friends and I decided to stay up there for a while, just to enjoy the atmosphere. We were just enjoyng each other’s company, laughing about memories of the trip, all while sitting atop one of the most beautiful structures in the world. Makes it all seem quite surreal, doesn’t it? At one point, I thought to myself, wow this is an experience that is completely unique to me–none of my friends back home would never get to do what I am doing, not exactly. The trip itself is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity–I mean, sure, my friends and I could go to Italy for two weeks one day, and we can do all of the things we’ve done on this trip, but it wouldn’t be the same. The fact that we are studying Dante in Italy is a chance I would have never gotten if it wasn’t for this trip, so for that, I am eternally grateful!

Milan

the duomo in Milan was beautiful and my favorite Duomo out of the whole trip. The gothic look of it made it very visually pleasing and the view was amazing. The stairs was a lot and I’m surprised i did not pass out while walking up the stairs. Next time I go i’m going to train by walking up stairs.

Milan

On our last day in Italy, we visited the beautiful city of Milan. In my opinion, out of all the other cities, Milan seemed the most modern and the most like home. This stems from the fact that it was heavily bombed during World War II and therefore a lot of the buildings had to be rebuilt. The hotel in Milan was also one of the nj At first I really wasn’t excited to visit this city because I’m not huge on fashion. However, I really enjoyed just walking around Milan’s Galleria, the oldest mall in the world. I even spun around three times on the bull for good luck. I also really enjoyed climbing Milan’s Duomo. After conquering the Duomo in Florence, this climb was a breeze. I absolutely loved being able to see all of the gothic architecture while we climbed through the spires. I especially enjoyed all of the gargoyles because I found out that, if you have 100,000 euros, you can adopt one and the money goes towards the Duomo’s restoration. Sadly I am not that rich at this point in my life but I can dream. At the end of the night we had a really nice dinner and took one last walk in the Italian streets. Italy is a beautiful country and I cannot wait to come visit it again!

A Day in Milan

To be completely honest, I wasn’t overly-excited about going to Milan. Being that it was the last stop of our trip, fatigue had definitely started to take a toll. However, it ended up being one of the most memorable days of my two weeks in Italy. Our primary site to see was the Duomo and pictures really don’t do it justice. As soon as we walked out of the metro station, we looked behind us and there it stood; we were all overwhelmed by its size and beautiful design. Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed into the church because my shoulders and knees were bare, but that didn’t stop me from climbing to the top of the cathedral. After trekking up a very long set of stairs, Brenna, Janthel, Tabitha, and I took in the gorgeous view of Milan and got a better look at the Duomo’s architecture. The intricate and detailed designs, which are gothic style, included engravings of faces and people. The four of us were content with simply appreciating the scene when we realized we actually weren’t at the top, so we traveled up a very narrow, windy set of stairs. All the stair climbing was absolutely worth it because from the top, we had an even larger view of the city. Once we made our way back down, we walked through the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Italy’s oldest mall, which featured high-end stores like Versace and Prada. Later on, some of us went with Dr. Permenter and Dr. O’Connor to a rooftop terrace with an amazing view of the cathedral. The day in Milan turned out to be one of my favorites and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end our Italian adventures.

It’s Better At The Top

There is something about being in high places that gives a person a sense of wonder. Especially when you have to work a little to get to the top. Today, we climbed to the top of the Duomo in Milan. When we finally reached the top, the whole of Milan stretched out before us. It’s truly a sight to behold, and one that you have to experience in person. This seems to be a common theme I have found in all the cities we visited in Italy. The heights, the food, the sights. It all needs to be taken in firsthand. I spent the first half of the day trying to find a way to commemorate my time in the country. I found a nice bag for my folks back home. Then we climbed the Duomo as a group (which was not as bad a walk as the tower in Bologna). We soaked in the sights for what could be the last time and retreated back to the ground floor. Just across the street, a unique gelato shop was serving product in the shape of flowers. Some friends and I grabbed a bite, and spent the rest of the day wondering around the town finding new places to eat. We came across the birthplace of pizza rolls and I got to try what the first pizza rolls might have been like. Then we went to the top of a roof just on the side of the Cathedral to enjoy some fine wine. It couldn’t have been a better way to end the day.
