Milan

I shuddered at the thought of climbing the Milan Cathedral. I had gotten my fill of heights from scaling the Duomo in Florence, so the prospect of climbing another tall structure seemed daunting at best. I had purposely chose to forgo climbing the Towers of Bologna for this same reason, but it seemed I had no choice with the Milan Cathedral. Climbing the steps themselves were no trouble and, were much easier than the at times steep inclines of the Duomo, but upon reaching the open-aired top, I felt the same sinking feeling in my gut. Perhaps that is my issue with heights such as these, the openness, the sensation that at any moment I might be whisked away by the breeze, and plummet to my death. To avoid this queasy feeling I stayed as far inward to the roof as possible, never venturing to the railing, to peek over and out upon the sprawling city below. Upon reaching solid ground again, I was glad I had climbed the cathedral,  but relieved that it was over, for while the views are breathtaking in a good way, the precariousness of such heights is not.

Afterwards we ventured throughout the Galleria, and over to Luini’s for panzerotti. The food at Luini’s was delicious, and I felt myself beginning to regain my spirits after the arduous climb up the cathedral. So when all this was said and done I decided to treat myself to some more shopping, purchasing another jacket, because after all Milan is the shopping mecca of Italy.
