Oh, Milano!

When I first found out we were going to Milan, I became very weary. A college student, such as myself, does not have the funds necessary to pull off the high fashion outfits that one would think to see around the city. When we actually arrived in Milan, the high end clothing was not seen on the everyday citizens, but rather in the windows of the shops themselves. Although, I must admit the residents of Milan seem to be runway ready at any given moment, its a talent really.

Other than being one of the main cities in the fashion industry, Milan is home to the wonderful cathedral dedicated to St. Mary of the Nativity. Some of my classmates and I had the opportunity to climb one of the spires to the roof of the cathedral, and honestly the seemingly never ending climb of the steps was certainly worth the view. Not only was the view of the city amazing, but the building itself was amazing! The detail on the various sculptures and the condition of the building was amazing for the amount of time it was bracing the elements. No wonder the building took almost 600 years to build. As everyone knows, true masterpieces take time.

Our stop in Milan seemed a fitting way to end our trip. After seeing so much of the history of Italy, the change to experiencing modern day culture was a welcome change. There is no better way to get an understanding of a city than by walking through the streets, and enjoying the culture around you.
